The Perfect Road Trip Itinerary for South Carolina

When thinking about the south, often times Charleston, South Carolina comes to mind. Though some may spend all week there, for those that only have a weekend to spend have no fear, this 2 day road trip itinerary for South Carolina will help you make the most out of your weekend.

Though there is never such thing as enough, this two day itinerary will certainly show you that it indeed is the perfect city for a short getaway. On the first day visit the museums and the houses of Charleston. Beginning with history, start at the Charleston Museum, the oldest museum in the U.S that’s remained open since 1773.

Here you’ll learn about the history of Charleston, the Civil War and many other cool and old exhibits. Go on a carriage ride through downtown to feel the city more on the personal side, as this should be one of the first things anyone does on their trip to the history city. One reason to why this city is so significant is because it was where the first shots of the Civil War happened, at Fort Sumter, an island off Charleston Harbor.

There is a lot of historic significance behind this location, so be sure to take a boat tour to and around the island. End your day by gazing upon the beautiful sunset on Folly Beach or Battery Point, depends on whether you want to leave town or not. If you decide to go to the beach, be sure to walk around the pier and snag some delicious seafood. The second day begins soon afterward with a visit to the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum where you’ll find an impressive Vietnam war exhibit; be sure to take a scenic helicopter tour as well.

Right after go visit the Old Plantation Houses of Charleston and walk through the old Slave Mart Museum to gain a deeper insight into those times of bitter turmoil. Some notable plantations worth visiting are the Magnolia plantation, Boone Hall plantation and the Middleton Place plantation, all have stunning houses and sprawling gardens and offer a thorough history of the South as a whole.

Another interesting plantation to check out is America’s only tea plantation, the Charleston tea plantation. There are many more beautiful and iconic attractions to check out and if anything follow the locals.
